Developing Interpersonal Skills at the World’s Top Consulting Firm

For consulting firms, people are the product and equipping them for success is the heart of the business. And when the world’s largest consulting firm needed to build the interpersonal skills of its people, it turned to The TRACOM Group.

With more than 83,000 employees working in 110 offices in 48 countries, the firm works with more than two-thirds of the Fortune Global 2000. It specializes in management strategy, IT services and outsourcing.

The consulting company originally chose TRACOM’s Social Style Model™ as a component of a program to improve the selling skills of its Partners. Building interpersonal skills was seen as a way to build stronger relationships between clients and their own senior executives who typically lead client projects.

“Our Partners really got excited about Social Style(sm),” said a manager with the company’s Learning Division. “It made a difference and became our tool of choice.”

TRACOM’s Social Style Model quickly was incorporated into other leadership and development programs including training for all new and existing managers.

“The concepts of Social Style are so consistent with our consultants’ needs. It has become part of the fabric of the way our people work,” the manager said.

The firm creates client service teams made up of experts in various business issues from around the world. Often these individuals have not worked collectively as a team. They need to combine their individual talents in a way that delivers value for the client. Social Style training has helped people build a common understanding of the challenge, allowing everyone to work toward a common goal.

TRACOM’s models and tools have been incorporated into the company’s comprehensive training program. This connects Social Style concepts to the firm’s other leadership and operational training.
“Our people really benefit from going through a consistent set of training programs,” said the Learning Division manager. “People share a common vocabulary and sense of purpose. They have the foundational skills to create innovative and effective business solutions for our clients.”

“We are a pretty demanding group of people and TRACOM has really risen to the occasion.”
